The Lateral (album) by Obelus

Experimental | Electronica | IDM | Glitch

"The Lateral" is the second album from the unique brand of Avant Garde IDM from duo Goessl & Pessl, Obelus. This unassuming outfit streams fluid, fascinating and uncliched electronic and organic sounds defying pigeonholes and encouraging humans to think of things they never thought before. In other words, dance music of the gods.

Artist Statement:

“The Lateral" is a stream-of-consciousness collection of tracks showcasing our backgrounds in jazz, funk, and hiphop and marrying those elements with glitch, electronic, left field, dark ambient improvisations. As a duo, there's a lot to explore and we let our minds go where they wanted to on this album and we encourage our listeners to do the same.

About Obelus

When Minneapolis guitarist Jason Goessl met Seattle drummer Adam Pessl in 2002, it seemed only right they should form some sort of musical pairing. [Come on, "Goessl" and "Pessl"? What are the odds?] Tenuous though the initial connection may have been, a partnership was formed and soon became the ever-evolving experimental project that is Obelus. Though trained and skilled in traditional live music performance, Jason and Adam were both fans of electronic music, and sought to forge a link between the two cultures. From the experimental to IDM to ambient to electro, Obelus has kept a unique sound intact reflective of their intuitive interplay.
