Wizard Island (Ep) by SKELL

Avant Metal - Stoner Metal - Instrumental Doom Metal

SKELL creates music to honor Skell, the spirit of the world above. Skell defeated Llao, the spirit of the world below, in an epic battle according to Klamath Native mythology. Crater Lake and Wizard Island were formed as a result of their conflict and the after effects of this monumental event can still be felt in the energy surrounding the area of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Mazama. Ponder the great battle that formed these wonders of nature as you hear the music of SKELL, honoring the histories of the Klamath people of the Pacific Northwest. Employing an experimental, avant-garde approach to metal music, SKELL creates rich sonic textures that allow the listener to simultaneously release primal rage and move forward into meditations upon the numinous.

About SKELL

Answering an ancient call of mythological sorcery, SKELL unearths a heavy doom metal unheard of in these modern times. Bringing forth a hypnotic array of hard instrumental tracks, what might seem like chaos to the unattuned ear is in actuality a release of primal rage to those who believe in the legend of SKELL. Honoring the creator of Crater Lake atop Mount Mazama in Southern Oregon, this group of Pacific Northwesterners started playing together in 2013 and will release their debut album, “Wizard Island”, in 2023. Inspired by non-traditional abstract artists like Basquiat, Kooning, and Dalí, as well as non-traditional abstract music like Coltrane’s “Interstellar Space” and Sun O)))’s Life Metal, SKELL is the antithesis of “pop music” humbly worshiping the dwindling medium of True Art. Featuring Jason “BC” Goessl, Brian "Biz" Barnesky and Joel "Pappy" Stanner on guitars, Kevin "Sleep" Millard on bass, and Robb "518" Davidson on drums, SKELL's tradition was to meet at People's Pub (RIP) on Ballard Ave in Seattle, WA before rehearsing every Wednesday beneath Bop Street Records where they recorded each session and dutifully communed with The Muse.
