Hot Chills (single) by The Pocket Kings
Funk / R&B
Introducing The Pocket Kings with "Hot Chills," a scorching new instrumental track written by their guitarist, Kelvin Kaspar. Crafted as an ode to jazz-funk legend John Scofield, this single channels the tight, concise grooves of funk icons like The Meters while showcasing The Pocket Kings' signature blend of soul, funk, and R&B.
Recorded over the span of a month in 2024, "Hot Chills" captures the band’s dynamic energy and razor-sharp musicianship. Kelvin Kaspar’s expressive guitar takes center stage, weaving effortlessly with Kurt Shipe's fiery trumpet, Eric Koppa's soulful tenor saxophone, Matt Vanderlinden's grooving bass lines, Steve Radke's smooth keys, and Mike Malone's pocket-perfect drumming.
Known for their ability to ignite dance floors and bring audiences to their feet, The Pocket Kings once again prove why they’re Wisconsin’s funk royalty. BIO:
The Pocket Kings are a crack unit of elite musicians trained in the fine art of igniting guerrilla dance parties and whipping crowds into a groove-inspired frenzy. Their weapon of choice? The best R&B, Soul, and Funk music of the modern era.
But wait, let's get specific for a minute. We're talking about the top-shelf stuff. Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Prince, D'Angelo, Ike and Tina, and The Isley Brothers. Heck, we even throw in the Roots covering Mya covering Les McCann covering Roberta Flack. Deep, right? And there's so much more.
The point is, The Pocket Kings bring an incredibly tight musical performance full of interesting, funky, danceable songs that will keep any joint jumping all night. The music sounds great, and people can't resist shaking something when they hear it—preferably what their mamas gave them. Some people even feel compelled to give us awards—like the 2023 WAMI for Best R&B/Funk Band.
The band is made up of Greg McMonagle (vocals), Kelvin Kaspar (guitar), Mike Malone (drums), Matt Vanderlinden (bass), and Steve Radke (keyboards). If you're really lucky, you might catch us with a full horn section, and then things get serious. Collectively, we've played all over Wisconsin and beyond at events like Waterfest, Wisconsin Funk Fest, and the Oshkosh Main Street Music Festival. Lots of fests. We've opened for well-known acts like Tower of Power and Gregg Rolie (from Santana and Journey). Also Loverboy. I know. We thought that one was weird, too.
