Album Description:

The debut album from Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce reignites the fire of the 50’s & 60’s with their fun renditions of classic American tunes. A true variety band, Voss draws on her eclectic background of musical taste and brings out the Top Ten songs this band performs including genres like jazz, rockabilly, pop, surf and funk and melding them together in a groovy way. Featuring award-winning Wisconsin artists Kate Voss on vocals/bass/melodica, Jason Goessl on guitar, Mike Underwood on drums, Kurt Shipe on trumpet and Eric Koppa on saxophone, this album has a distinct throwback vibe. With a sound that’s like Wanda Jackson meets Ray Charles, “Top Ten” gives off a feel good energy and is the perfect soundtrack to appease the whole wrecking crew.

Tracks:

Chuck Berry’s tune reimagined as a Rhumba with a muted trumpet feature.

A tribute to Wanda Jackson, Connie Francis and Patsy Cline, this upbeat version country/rockabilly tune features high energy horn parts.

A fun trumpet/vocal duet with stacked trumpet harmonies, this vintage tune gets a little makeover and it’s delightful.

A new take on Ray Charles’ “I Got A Woman” this is a must listen!

A tribute to the lushness of the 60’s, “I’m Sorry” features Jordanaires style harmonies and lots of reverb.

A surftastic rendition of the classic Nancy Sinatra tune adding a little Mancini spice.

A rockabilly rendition of this classic tune featuring sax and trumpet and a rockin drum solo.

A VERY uptempo version of this classic tune, the guitar shredding from Goessl would have made Les Paul proud.

Another Ray Charles classic with a bit of rockabilly flair with added horn parts and the classic prom-swaying-12/8 feel.

With a nod to Dusty Springfield, this funky dance version of Spooky will get you moving!

Artist Bio:

Hailing from the Emerald City, Kate Voss got her start in the club scene in Seattle playing with a variety of groups on piano. When her jazz studies were nearing an end and her musical interests could not be pinned down to a single genre, her teacher assigned her the title of "dilettante". Luckily for us all, that only inspired Kate to further explore other avenues for making music and ultimately brought her to form Kate Voss & The Hot Sauce which encompasses all the genres she loves. A true variety band, this act pulls from her varied background of jazz, blues, pop, country, western-swing, oldies, americana and rockabilly. As a full-time musician, Voss has cultivated a stage presence that charms and delights folks and a voice that "Nails the authenticity of the era" (JazzTimes) with tunes from Brenda Lee to Nancy Sinatra and Patsy Cline to Ray Charles. Kate has been awarded "Vocalist of the Year" and "Ensemble of the Year" from Earshot Magazine and after her move to Wisconsin in 2021, was nominated for several WAMI awards including Female Vocalist of the year, Instrumentalist of the year, Pop Artist of the Year, and Free Reed Player of the Year. As leader of this band, Kate sings lead vocals, plays the Ukulele Bass, and occasionally plays melodica while staying true to her one rule in this band: Kate says "We only play songs I love." Kate has been touring the country with her duo act Sundae + Mr. Goessl for the past decade performing thousands of shows in 40+ states. Her new book, "Melodica Method", was published in 2023 through Hal Leonard. Voss also runs an independent record label with her husband, Jason Goessl, and a boutique & bar in downtown Oshkosh called Can Can. Jason and Kate are expecting their first child this August and hope that the baby doesn’t dismay their rescue chihuahua (Jackie Osassis) too much.
