Joe Sly

Fox Valley Songwriter/Producer Joe Sly's music has been enjoyed from living room couches around the world, thanks to placements on TV shows like Cobra Kai, The Voice, and Young and the Restless. Live audiences in many wonderful time zones have also enjoyed this music as he toured with bands and held residencies in places like Koh Tao (Thailand), San Francisco, and his native land of cheese, Wisconsin. Today you can hear his live band of Smooth Operators, or the wide array of other artists who have recorded his songs, in whichever musical stream you happen to launch your canoe.

The Best Part by Joe Sly
Release Date: 2024-10-14

Release Description:
This song started as a home demo by Joe Sly, but drummer Mike Malone and bassist Dave Jerabek weren’t allowed to hear it first! As a YouTube experiment, Mike recorded drums guided only by Joe’s verbal instructions, describing the form, tempo, and rhythms while invoking Graceland and Afro-Cuban vibes. With just a click track, they nailed drums and bass in three takes. Inspired, Joe added percussion, piano, and trumpet, crafting the final mix in his home studio with fresh layers and a new arrangement.

The entire process was documented and can be viewed HERE.
